How can one get a duplicate Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgement, if the original the one is lost?

With the growing e-governance and digital revolution in India, it's not hard to get duplicate copy of your income tax return acknowledgement.

There are 3 ways you could go about it:

1. The income tax department sends an acknowledgment for every IT return to your registered email. If you search your inbox, chances are that the ITR acknowledgment is already there.

2. If you have submitted your tax returns online, all you need to do is visit the Income Tax Department website. Once you enter your login details, go to the ‘my account’ section, and select the e-Filed Returns/forms tab. 
You should get a list of all your previously filed income tax returns. You can download the tax return, as well as the tax return acknowledgement, as per the assessment year.

3. If you filed your tax physically, you will have to approach your Jurisdictional Income Tax Officer and request for a duplicate copy of your return acknowledgment.
