Introduction

IE Code is a 10 digit number issued by Director General of Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce, Government of India. This number is mandatory for international trade of Export and Import by any bonafide person/ company starting a business. An application to the Regional Authority of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to be made in the Aayaat Niryaat Form 2A (ANF 2A) format in the region where the registered office of the company is situated. Form ANF 2A entrains the General details of the business and its proprietors, partners or directors, Bank account detail and bank certificate from the period where it has an account the bank. Facility for online filing for obtaining IEC and other authorization is providing by DGFT.

Government regulations governing import export codes

There are government regulations that guide the IE code in India. These are as follow:

  1. IEC Code is mandatory for any person doing Import or Export except if exempted and specified in the list. This code is granted if applied to the competent authority.
  2. Registered/Head Office of the applicant must make the application in the form specified for the grant of IEC number to the licensing authority concerned along with document prescribed therein.
  3. IEC Code number shall be valid for applicant’s all branches/divisions/units/factories as indicated on the IEC number.
  4. In the case of lost or misplacing of this number, an affidavit along with the request letter for issue of duplicate copy of IEC number is sent to the issuing authority.
  5. An IEC holder may even surrender the IEC number if he intends not to operate. In that case, the issuing authority further informed the RBI/Customs/Licensing authorities about the inoperativeness of the said IEC number.
  6. If there is any change in the name/address or Constitution of IEC holder/licensee, the same needs to be executed within 60 days from date of such changes in name Constitution to the licensing authority otherwise he will be cease to be eligible for import or export against the licence /IEC number or any other facility permitted under the Policy and Handbook.

Get the IE Code

This ten digit code is important for all the importers and exporters. This license, which is applicable, valid, indefinitely, is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries. It is easy and simple as long as you have all specified documents in order. It is obtained in 7 to 10 working days. For getting this number, you shall visit either relevant office in or send it via speed post.

Documents Required For IEC Registration

Initial documents required for obtaining IEC are:

  1. PAN card
  2. Bank account
  3. Address PROOF
  4. Four Passport Sized Photographs

In the case of a Private or Public limited company, additional documents required are as follow:

  • Memorandum of Association
  • Article of Association
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • LLP agreements ( in case of LLP)

Procedure for IEC Registration

1. Application form duly filled and signed by authorized signatory.

2. Self-certified copy of IE code issued by DGFT.

3. Mention the List of Directors/Partners/Proprietor on company’s letterhead in triplicate.

4. Private and Public limited companies should forward a copy of their Memorandum and Article of Association and Partnership firms should forward a copy of partnership deed attested by notary.

5. Self-certified copy of PAN issued by Income Tax Department.

6. The company shall also mention their e-mail ID, phone and fax number etc. in their application.

7. In case the exporter desires to register him as a manufacturer-exporter, he should furnish the copy of company’s registration with FFO, Directorate of Industries and State Department of Horticulture/Ag mark/EIA etc.

8. Signed Bank certificate by the Authorities.

9. Cash or DD/Pay Order of Rs. 5000/- in favor of APEDA regarding registration to the Specific APEDA office where the request has been made for seeking RCMC.
